University of Chester is England’s 5th oldest higher institution formerly Chester Dioecesan Training College, with Oxford, Cambridge, Durham and London universities ahead of it in terms of age.
University of Chester was established in 1839 as Chester Dioecesan Training College as UKs first purpose built teacher training college which transformed into a university in 2005,so the university is an amalgamation of established academic tradition and current/relevant/contemporary knowledge.
The university belongs to Cathedrals Group, North West Universities Association,Association of Commonwealth Universities and Universities UK.
The university is a public university consistently monitored by QAA(Quality Assurance Agency),Office for Standards in Education, Children Services and Skills(OFSTED) and Teaching Excellence Framework(TEF).
University of Chester has seven faculties including Arts and Humanities, Chester Business School, Education and Children’s Services, Health and Social Care, Medicine, Dentistry and Life Sciences, Science and Engineering and Social Science.
Of-late, the university has 1,880 staff members and some 19,850 students who are drawn from different boundaries across 130 countries and provides a range of foundation, bachelours and masters courses, as well as academic research programmes, MPhil and PhD programmes.
The University of Chester maintains five campuses along with a University Centre in Shrewsbury. Parkgate Road Campus in Chester is spread across an area of 32 acres.
University of Chester offers an extensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to over 19,000 students across specialist sites in 5 campuses namely Chester, Warrington, Shrewsbury, Birkenhead and Nantwich.
The university has mixture of Victorian buildings (like Old College) and modern buildings (like the Students’ Union).
Apart from offering a range of facilities considered conducive for learning, the university features swimming pool, sports hall, fitness centre, bookshop,science and language laboratories and a bank with all campuses of the institution well-equipped for scholarly endeavours.
The university has an 11% international students’ population percentage according to Times Higher Education.
